Privacy Policy
Effective 29 July 2026
Low Cal Pal ("we", "us") helps you import recipes and create lighter versions of them. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
- Account details — if you create an account, your email address and a securely hashed password. A display picture if you choose to add one.
- Your content — the recipes you import, scan, or generate, any lightened versions, and your meal plans.
- Usage data — counts of imports and reductions used, so we can apply free-tier limits.
- Device identifier — before you sign up, we create an anonymous identifier for your device so your recipes and limits are remembered. No personal information is attached to it.
- Diagnostic data — if crash reporting is enabled, technical details about errors and crashes (such as error messages, stack traces, and basic device and app information) so we can find and fix problems. This is not used to identify you, and we do not send your IP address with it.
How we use your information
- To provide the app: store your recipes and meal plans, and sync them if you sign in.
- To process recipe content with AI: when you import, scan, or lighten a recipe, the relevant text or image is sent to our AI provider, Anthropic, to extract or transform the recipe. It is used only to fulfil your request.
- To apply and meter free-tier limits and manage any premium subscription.
How your information is shared
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not track you across other apps or websites. We share data only with the providers that run the app:
- Anthropic — AI processing of recipe content you submit.
- Apple — if you purchase a subscription, payment and subscription management are handled by Apple. We never see your payment details.
- Resend — delivers account emails, such as password-reset links, to your email address.
- Sentry — receives crash and diagnostic reports (when crash reporting is enabled) so we can find and fix bugs.
- Our hosting provider — stores your account and recipe data so the app can run.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your data while your account is active. You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time from Settings → Delete account. This removes your recipes, meal plans, usage history, and profile information, and cannot be undone.
Security
Passwords are stored hashed, never in plain text, and data is transmitted over encrypted (HTTPS) connections. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
Children
Low Cal Pal is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date above.
